Time and the Road
04:08
|

I spent my days upside down
Wearing a suit, wearing a frown
My days are long, and my hands they are cold
You ain’t seen nothing like six months of snow
It’s a tough row to hoe here in New England
Goin where the trees forever grow
So I’m heading out west, I’m going to Oregon
All I got is time and the road, time and the road
The promised land is waiting for me
One more tall building might bring me to my knees
I’m here in my room just wallowing the days
I want to feel the Pacific wind on my face
It’s a tough row to hoe here in Boston
I just want to feel some rock n’ roll
So I’m heading out west, I’m going to Portland
All I got is time and the road, time and the road
My step slowed down when I stopped to feel the breeze
I have never travelled so far and seen so many trees
There’s music in my head, it seeps up from the ground
Baby, take my hand and listen to the sound
It’s a tough row to hoe here in New England
Goin’ where the clear water flows
So I’m heading out west, I’m going to Oregon
All I got is time and the road, time and the road

Saratoga
04:06
|

We rolled into Saratoga
Driving all day with my friend Joe
It felt like rain was on its way
And it was only three hours ‘till the show
We hung out in the parking lot
Smoking pot and drinking wine
Listening to a tape from ‘78
Joe gave me something to try
They turned down the lights
We stayed up all night
C’mon and tell me, where do the good times go
It was my first… Grateful Dead Show
Freaks standing all around us
I started feeling really high
I saw the colors of the fountain
Joe looked at me and he just smiled
They opened up with Midnight Hour
And they closed with Baby Blue
Joe got lost on his way to the car
And at some point, I lost my shoe
They turned down the lights
We stayed up all night
C’mon and tell me, where do the good times go
It was my first… Grateful Dead Show
These days I spend my time working
I moved away from the east coat
I still remember Saratoga
And I wonder whatever happened to Joe
Music playing at a friend’s house
Takes me back to that night in June
The set opened with Midnight Hour
And it closed with Baby Blue
They turned down the lights
We stayed up all night
C’mon and tell me, where do the good times go
It was my first… Grateful Dead Show
Come on and tell me where do the good times go

Staircase to You
03:41
|
|||
I’ve been searching in the darkness
And looking for the light
I am a weary traveler
Wandering in the night
I am worn and tired
As I lay here on the ground
Through the night see a vision
A staircase I have found
Climbing this staircase to you
Step by step, floor by floor
I’ll make it to your door
Now I’m climbing that staircase to you.
I have been up to the Mountain
I have walked from shore to shore
I have crossed so many rivers
And now I search no search no more
A lonely wind blows down the valley
For no more I will roam
I’m climbing those golden stairs
I’m finally going home
Climbing this staircase to you
Step by step, floor by floor
I’ll make it to your door
Now I’m climbing that staircase to you.
Climbing this staircase to you
Step by step, floor by floor
I’ll make it to your door
Now I’m climbing that staircase to you.
Now I’m climbing that staircase to you.

Day Job
03:36
|
|||
When you see me coming down that long dirt road
When you see me come you know it’s time to go
Honey pack a bag don’t take too much
Cause we’re gonna move fast no time for such
See I’ve had it up to here with that nine to five
And I’ve added up the years taken from our lives
It’s gonna take a while to get those back
But starting right now we’re gonna get on track
I’m done with this day job
Tired of being a working class slob
Gonna trade my white collar for a few less dollars
And wear my flip-flops all day long
Some might say I quit
But I don’t give a single thought to it
Well I burned a bridge or two on my way out the door
But I don’t care since I’m coming back no more
Don’t need to make no apology
Cause from here on out it’s just you and me
I’m done with this day job
Tired of being a working class slob
Gonna trade my white collar for a few less dollars
And wear my flip-flops all day long
Might even write a few songs

Below the Bar

BELOW THE BAR
Well I just found out… I’m below the bar
Well I’ll never measure up, or get too far
I been drinkin’ here all day
And now I’ve gotta find a place to stay
Well I just found out… I’m below the bar
I was once upwardly mobile
Climbing up to the top of the pile
But then I fell down
And I’m lyin’ here on the ground
I just found out… I’m below the bar
My date she raised the bar pretty high
But I can’t stand up now matter how I try
Oh, how did I get in this mess
On the floor lookin’ up her dress
I just found out… I’m below the bar.
When I get back on my feet again
I’ll be number one with all my friends
But now whose gonna pay my tab
Pick me up and call a cab.
I just found out… I’m below the bar.
I just found out… I’m below the bar
Well I’ll never measure up, or get too far
I been drinkin’ here all day
And now I’ve gotta find a place to stay
I guess this means… I’m below the bar
I been drinkin’ here all day
And now I’ve gotta find a place to stay
I guess this means… I’m below the bar

All Messed Up

All Messed Up - NEED CORRECTION
It was back in high school, he would play guitar
He started playing parties, and then he started playing bars
I could see it then, I knew he was no fool
He’s gonna make it big, and its gonna be cool
Then came the video
When he let that guitar ring
He tore up Johnny B. Goode, Crossroads, and Sultans of Swing
He got a car and a contract, and drove down to LA
Were the people stood in line just to hear him play
....
In Bakersfield he got busted, in Riverside he wrecked his car
The only thing he ever trusted, was that someday he would be a star
He’s all messed up, your friend that never grew up
He never knew that they would love him anyway
Cause whenever he showed up, they said he would blow up
And be……. a really…… big star someday
And he went and threw it all away.
One night in Texas, at a gig in Abiline
30 days sober and he swore he was gonna stay clean
He met a girl with banjo, who was in trouble with the law
First they started drinkin’ and then she taught him “Turkey In The Straw”
She drank him under the table, and they wound up on the news
That’s when he lost his label, and they started started playin’ the blues
He’s all messed up, your friend that never grew up
He never knew that they would love him anyway
Cause whenever he showed up, they said he would blow up
And be……. a really…… big star someday
He’s comin’ to your town today.
Twenty year later, he still plays guitar
He’s still playing parties, and he’s still playing bars
I can see it now, I guess I was the fool
He never made it big, but it still seems cool
Now her banjo’s is rusted, and he still plays that old guitar
The only thing they ever trusted, is that someday he would be a star
He’s all messed up, your friend that never grew up
He never knew that they would love him anyway
Cause whenever he showed up, they said he would blow up
And be……. a really…… big star someday
And he went and threw it all away.

Big City Range

BIG CITY RANGE
Well my doggies are real doggies and Tacoma is my horse
I ain’t never been in a bar room fight and had just one divorce
Tonight I won’t be singing under the moon or stars.
Cuz I only play in restaurants and bars.
Got a pearly snap shirt and a 10 gallon hat
Bought my belt buckle at the mall and my boots at TJ Max
At the office I have a loaded silver staple gun
And I’m the fastest filer under the sun.
I know you might a look at me and think it’s Halloween
Or maybe that I was an actor in a western movie scene
And when you see me standing here, it might seem a little strange,
But I’m just ridin’ that big city range.
I ramble to the market, I ramble to the park
I ramble in the morning and ramble after dark
I’m a ramblin’ cowboy, I ramble all around
I’m rambling right now, makin’ that ramblin’ sound
Well, I’ve seen those cowboys on my big screen TV
And I’ve heard them sing about how lonely life can be
But when I see the animals all alone at zoo.
You know that’s when I feel lonely too.
I know you might a look at me and think it’s Halloween
Or maybe that I was an actor in a western movie scene
And when you see me standing here, it might seem a little strange,
But I’m just ridin’ that big city range.
I’m just ridin’ that big city range.

Jacks or Better
If I act on a feeling, if I’m forward thinking, Will I make a haul tonight?
Jacks or better to open, Last hand dealt was smokin’, Keep your cards out in the light
Call’em like you see’em Just don’t stop breathin’
Never know who’s bluffin’ Poker face ain’t telling
I gotta go big to win, Need more than luck to stay in
Smile when I lose In a while I’ll start to cruise
Pot keeps on rising, Next hand rakes the pile in, Shuffle and cut the deck to win
Ante up and deal’em, Watch the cards no cheatin’, sneak a peek try not to sweat
My pair of queens look pretty But three kings take the kitty
I never saw it coming Poker face ain’t tellin’
I gotta go big to win, Need more than luck to stay in
Smile when I lose In a while I’ll start to cruise
Never know who’s bluffin’, poker face ain’t telling
Never saw it coming, poker face ain’t telling

I'll See You Again
03:43
|

I’LL SEE YOU AGAIN
As I walk to the shore, I wear myself a crown
Every day I look back you never let me down
As I walk to the shore and you drift into the wind
If you don’t come back, I’ll see you again
Once you’re on the water, and you drift into the blue
And you look down to the bottom, and darkness talks to you
It calls your name just once, a message does it send
It tells you when you’re close to the end
As I walk to the shore, I wear myself a crown
Every day I look back you never let me down
As I walk to the shore and you drift into the wind
If you don’t come back, I’ll see you again
The mountains made us hungry, the rivers made us men
Your name gets written on a stone, but they never tell you when
Some they go to sleep, and some they rise again
And some will see the sun in Oregon.
As I walk to the shore, I wear myself a crown
Every day I look back you never let me down
As I walk to the shore and you drift into the wind
If you don’t come back, I’ll see you again
When fall comes upon us and the days begin to wane
I’ll look into your eyes and you can see my pain
The next thing you know, you’re making amends
And then you say goodbye to all your friends
As I walk to the shore, I wear myself a crown
Every day I look back you never let me down
As I walk to the shore and you drift into the wind
If you don’t come back, I’ll see you again
As I walk to the shore, I wear myself a crown
Every day I look back you never let me down
As I walk to the shore and you drift into the wind
If you don’t come back, I’ll see you again
If you don’t come back, I’ll see you again

Whispering Pines

WHISPERING PINES
She lives below the mountain
Where the trees grow tall with time
I fixed her door, and she kept me warm
Down in the whispering pines
On Saturday night I went walkin’
Down the streets where the lights do shine
But all of the time, with her on my mind,
I was down in the whispering pines
You can hear them if you listen
A girl like her is so hard to find
And the trees go on forever
Down in the whispering pines
Some trees they fall when the wind blows
I fell for her in the pines
She touched my hand, then made me her man
Down in the whispering pines
You can hear them if you listen
A girl like her is so hard to find
And the trees go on forever
Down in the whispering pines
You can hear them if you listen
A girl like her is so hard to find
And the trees go on forever
Down in the whispering pines.

Brad Creel Portland, Oregon
Lava Lamp Country is a place where Gram Parsons and John Prine are constantly spinning on the turntable, Cher frolics with
Bigfoot in the backyard, the lights are low, and the lava lamps flow.
Lava Lamp Country is also the new album by BRAD CREEL & THE REEL DEEL, their fourth, as well as the musical genre that they practice.
